The European Commission: Lifting the Veil, April 7, Aix

In partnership with the IAU, the MAABN is organizing a presentation by Andrew Klom, Acting Head of the EC Regional Representation in Marseille, on April 7 at the IAU in Aix-en-Provence.


Andrew Klom’s talk will be focussing on the role and functioning of the European Commission, the European Union’s institutions and decision-making procedures and the impact and relevance of the EU for the PACA region.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and the MAABN Networking Evening, which will provide a perfect opportunity to discuss the subject further over an aperitif.

Andy Klom

Andy Klom joined the European Commission Regional Representation in Marseille in January 2016 as Acting Head of the EC Regional Representation -which covers most of South France- for the European Commission.

He has considerable experience in the field of representation and communication in the EU Member States, having previously served as Head of the EC Representation in The Hague (Netherlands) and  Head of the EC Regional Representation in Cardiff (Wales, United Kingdom).

Andy joined the European Commission in 1993 after a brief career in the Dutch Diplomatic Service and spent many years working at its HQ in Brussels in the External Relations (Foreign Affairs) Directorate-General, working mainly on diplomatic and trade relations between the European Union and Latin America.

Andy Klom also worked briefly in academia and was both Visiting Professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin (USA) during 2003 and 2004, as well as Guest Lecturer and Honorary Research Fellow at the Cardiff School of European Studies (UK) from 2006 to 2012.
