Jonathan Coe Book Signing, 8 June

Jonathan Coe at the Book in Bar, Aix-en-Provence

Saturday, 8 June

British author Jonathan Coe will be at the Book in Bar in Aix-en-Provence on Saturday 8 June at  5 pm to meet readers and sign his books.

Coe’s ‘work has an underlying preoccupation with political issues, although this serious engagement is often expressed comically in the form of satire. For example, What a Carve Up! reworks the plot of an old 1960s spoof horror film of the same name. It is set within the “carve up” of the UK’s resources which was carried out by Margaret Thatcher’s right wing Conservative governments of the 1980s’. (From Wikipedia).

Among his awards are the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger for “What a Carve Up” in 1995, the Prix Médicis Étranger for “The House of Sleep” in 1998, the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for “The Rotters’ Club” in 2001, and the Samuel Johnson Prize for “Like a Fiery Elephant” in 2005. In 2004 he was made Chevalier l’Ordre des Arts and des Lettres.

His ninth novel, “The Terrible Privacy of Maxwell Sim”, was published in the UK in May 2010. Jonathan Coe lives in London with his wife and two daughters.
