New New York Air Link Launched by XL Airways

XL Airways direct, scheduled service Marseille-New York as of May 2013!!

XL Airways will run a new twice-weekly service to New York’s JFK Airport from the end of May 2013, announced Laurent Magnin, president of the airline, on September 6th. Attractive two-way fares of less than 500€ are proposed. XL Airways now link Marseille with Punta Cana, Mayotte and Reunion Island, as well as New York.

This comes hot on the heels of the announcement that British Airways will connect Marseille with London Heathrow Airport rather than Gatwick, thus opening up a multitude of new connections with the rest of the world and offering quicker access to Central London.

Decidedly, things are happening at Marseille-Provence Airport! They expect to pass the symbolic 8-million-passenger mark this year and are one of Europe’s fastest-growing airports. This is a good sign of rising tourism and increasing investment in the region and augers well for next year’s European Capital of Culture events.

We are pleased to report that MAABN members have played their part in this success. For both the New York and Heathrow links, MAABN conducted on-line surveys of members opinions and practices between 2009 and 2011. The data were communicated to the airport and British Airways and have gratifyingly been taken into consideration. Our thanks to all members who responded to the survey.
